Drivers from Cross Strait Four Regions came to Zhuzhou for Formula Renault Super Challenge last weekend, attracted fans to come and cheer.
Gerrard Xie, the youngest driver this weekend, made the fastest lap of 1:52.467 on the seventh lap of qualifying and claimed the pole position. Jason Wu and Kenneth Ma followed.
In the race, Gerrard showed his ability and talent. Although it’s not a good start, he immediately defended and successfully secured his position after Turn 1. He led the way on Sunday, ending the event with 60 points, including two champions and now sit at the 3rd spot on the driver standings with only 2 points behind.
That’s the first Formula Renault trophy in his racing career. His performance in this race will definitely give this young driver a confidence to win the Championship of the Year.
In the Father’s Day, his victory at Zhuzhou Circuit should have brought his dad a big surprise.
This weekend was also the birthday of the Macau driver Nicholas Lai, he made a brilliant start in race 1, starting from fifth place and managed to grasp the mistake of the cars in front, he climbed up to the third position and maintained his position till the chequered flag. A much improved weekend generally for the H-Star Racing driver Nicholas Lai, who was achieved comfortably his highest placing of the season so far in third overall.
Jason Wu from Taipei, was delighted to bring his car home on the podium at Zhuzhou Circuit for only his first formula race in 2022.
In the main race, Jason made a poor start, but with his experience and aggressive driving, a several laps later, he followed home by team-mate Tianhao Zhu in third, finish in the top seven in overall standing, which is expected to compete for the Championship of the Year. This weekend also brought enough team points for the Pointer Racing team.
Two new drivers Brian Lai and Donnie Deng first joined Formula Renault Super Challenge cup race, their performance was surprisingly well. Everyone look forward to the performance of the two new drivers in the upcoming events.
The H-Star Racing team has an expectation for this race. Donnie Deng, who replaced William Kwok as a second driver, managed to keep their pace against a group of experienced drivers, and secured points for the overall standing. H-Star Racing is now 16 points leading the team championship.
Hong Kong driver Hugo Hung from H-Star Racing team, continued to fight in person this event. The car’s fuel system and cooling system failed at the start of qualifying, which couldn’t help to make a good lap. Hugo finally retired from a car problem after 9 laps in the first race. The Team successfully fixed the problem before the start of the race, and he secured his place on the podium in the second race. He is now on top five in the drivers’ standings. Kenneth Ma ranked first in the standings, two points ahead of Siling Bei and Gerrard Xie.
